Research Interest
The research in my group has been in two major areas. One is to investigate the interaction of organic semiconducting molecules with single-crystal surfaces with issues of our interest including chemisorption, adsorption structure, thin-film growth, etc. The techniques include a wide range of ultrahigh-vacuum, surface analytical instruments based on synchrotron-derived x-ray spectroscopies, x-ray diffraction, and scanning probe microscopy. The other is to investigate interfacial electronic property and crystallinity state of organic semiconducting thin films when deposited on dielectric surfaces, a primary configuration of working thin films field effect transistors. The growth of high-quality organic crystalline films is often hampered by the presence of weak intermolecular force and a myriad of molecular conformations in organic materials. Based on the knowledge gained from the fundamental study, we adopt various approaches to perfect the growth of thin films in the hope of optimizing the overall performance of organic field effect transistors.
